The Tools You Need To Succeed On The Trails

The resources listed here have helped me not only enjoy mountain biking at a higher level but have also given me more confidence while on the trails and stay out there longer!

I have found this MTB program by James Wilson to have helped in a number of ways. Firstly, it is completely aimed at mountain biking and very different from anything have I done in the past. This is the first time I have trained pacifically for mountain biking. It is making me work muscle groups I didn’t think were important and it is making me more flexible and stronger without requiring many weights. I train in a gym but you could easily do this at home with basic equipment. I defiantly feel the benefits of the training when on the trail. I am faster, stronger, last longer and I also feel like I have better bike handling skills. It has an out of season training programme, an in season training programme. It covers nutrition and supplements, recovery, mental training, skills training, it has everything. The training steps up in difficulty as you progress through it, so it works for all levels. Also if you have never trained before this will be a great starting point as every exercise is explained via a video link.

I love these pedals. After a couple of days use I was hooked. Because of the larger foot platform they just give you more confidence in all aspects of your riding. I found much better pedal power when pushing from standing, better cornering, no foot slippage (small pins), no or very little pedal strikes and more stability on downhill sections. On the climbs I am not sure if they give you a tone more speed, or an extra gear if you like, as I push myself hard each time and don’t use any form of timing so I always feel beat when I get to the top! I just enjoy having these pedals on my bike. I have more aggressive cornering, more stability through the air (when I say air I mean about 6 inches) and just feel more control over foot position and bike handling.
