Robert Lynn for Freewheelin.ie

On episode #96 we’re reviewing the Nukeproof Mega 275C Pro Carbon with Robert from Freewheeling.ie. We had Robert on the show back in episode #82 (listen here) where we reviewed the 2019 Vitus Escarpe 29 VRX. Chain Reaction Cycles Belfast were so impressed with the last review that they kindly lent Robert the 2019 Nukeproof Mega 275C Pro to review for the last number of weeks. Also, stick around to the end of the show where we review the Nukeproof Horizon Pro Sam Hill Flat Pedals.

Getting back to the Mega Pro, on first impressions the bike is fantastic looking. It looks sleek in its midnight blue and yellow decal colour scheme, has an aggressive stance and looks like a bike ready to race out of the box. In the podcast we chat about how much input Sam Hill had on this bike, and we believe he was riding it over the 2017 enduro race season. This bike was developed under Alastair Beckett, who was Nukeproof brand manager at this time. If you want to hear more about the history of the Nukeproof brand I had Alastair on the show back in episode #36 (listen here).

Robert tested the bike over a number of different trail types, getting used to the 170mm Rock Shox Lyric Charger front fork, the slack-head angle, the 27.5 wheels and the Michelin Wild Enduro Gum X tyres. We chat about Robert’s first impressions, how the bike handled in different conditions, how the bike was downhill happy, how the GX Eagle 12 speed gearing preformed and how Robert’s thoughts on price versus value, plus much more.

  • Robert’s first impression of the Michelin Wild Enduro Gum X tires
  • Why Robert ran tubes and not tubeless
  • Value for money
  • A little more about the Mega range
  • The kind of rider this bike is aimed at

It is always great to get Robert on the show as his views and impressions are, as he puts it, for the average rider. We chat about how the bike works, preforms and the type of riding we believe it is best designed for. We do not get too involved in measurements, settings and jargon as we believe the average rider just wants to know if the bike will work for them, how it will benefit there riding and if it is worth spending their hard earned money on. After all, this bike is £4,199 and you would need to make sure it is the correct bike for you before you make a purchase. I do love the Nukeproof brand and the fact that it is still designed in Belfast is something Chain Reaction Cycles should be proud of. In general, if this bike is suited towards your style of riding and within your price range, I don’t think you could do any better. The bike is fast, capable of large drops, creates confidence and will push your riding to the next level. Tune in to get more information and how the Mega Pro performed in our review.

At the end of the show we chat about the Nukeproof Horizon Pro Sam Hill Flat Pedals. If you’re a flat pedal rider, you will probably have heard of the Nukeproof Horizon pedal range. The Pro Sam Hill pedal is used by the man himself, only in the titanium version. The pedal has a large foot platform with removable pins for easy maintenance and adaption. Robert has a set of the old Horizon pedals so was familiar with the feel and foot position of this new model. Robert chats about how user friendly the pedals are, the lack of foot slippage, how he had no pedal strikes and the clever water seal Nukeproof have added to prolong the service life of the pedal .

We chat about all this and more, so put your feet up, have a listen and see if Nukeproof is a brand you will be adding to your gear!

Enjoy the show.
